Police suspects that some insider might have killed Mukesh. But there are possibilities that somebody sneaked in the campus and killed Mukesh as the residence area allotted to blind students is one of the most accessible portions of the hostel.

The security at the Hansraj College hostel is very strict, nobody, except ID card-holders are allowed to enter in the campus and this incident has shocked everybody.

DU Basketball Team Forced to Loose the Game at Gunpoint

Cat at GunpointThe DU basketball team that went to Varanasi, to compete in All-India Inter-University Basketball championship held at Banaras Hindu University, from January 27 to February 1, was forced to loose at gunpoint.

Some unidentified goons threaten to kill DU basketball team members if they don’t forfeit their match against the host team.

The North Zone basketball champion, Delhi University basketball team was one of the favorite teams to win the tournament but they quit their semi final match against the hosts after the third quarter due to life threats and unfair play.

After returning from the Varanasi, DU basketball team captain Harish Dahiya complained about the unruly behavior of the hosts. He not only blamed the unknown criminals but also the BHU officials, who manipulated other teams and overlooked the criminals to promote their two home teams.

Not only DU team but team members of Jaipur, Chennai and Pune also said the same incident occurred with them. Chennai’s Satyabhama University team is considering going to court on this issue.

You can understand the truth of the complaints of DU and other teams by this fact that both the home teams, BHU and MG Kashi Vidyapeeth, reached the final and BHU won the title.

Will the CAT Aspirants Get a Second Chance?

Will the Online Cat Exam Be a Success? Many CAT aspirants were not able to give online entrance examination this year due to the technical fault with the online examination. The disappointment, frustration and anxiety are writ large on the faces of these students. Huge number of students could not sit for entrance examination last Tuesday. And it was the last official scheduled day of the CAT Entrance examination this year. The assurance for the second chance was given by the Prometric centers. But the students are still waiting for the response. The Prometric centers failed to take the exam because of some technical problem.

The students who missed the examination were told that they would be notified through SMS’s or e-mail. Till now they haven’t got any response from the Prometric centers. The confusion was created because the online system crashed. Now the incident has also made the students suspicious of the results of the examination. The lucky students, who gave their examination, are in doubt about the results and proper checking of copies. They are unsure whether they could be able to crack the examination or not.

On the other hand the management gurus are looking very optimistic. As they feel that it is not the end for those students, who were unable to give the examination. Large numbers of students are already looking forward to the other forthcoming management entrance exams. The reputed coaching centers are not taking any break as they have to prepare students for the up-coming exams.

DU Teachers Go On Strike Again

DU Teachers on StrikeDelhi University Teachers stayed away from the classes in response of their strike for “stifling academic freedom”. Delhi University had proposed a biometric attendance system for their teachers and DUTA (Delhi University Teachers Association) was protesting against the decision taken by the board.

Instead of taking the classes, the teachers spent their day relaxing. Some of spent the day by soaking themselves in the warm sun and sipping in the tea with crispy pakoras. Last Monday, the proposal was being placed in front of the Executive Council. Delhi University is suspecting that DUTA must be trying to conceal those teachers who do not meet their academic responsibility properly.

On Monday the teachers from DUTA staged a dharna in front of the University Office, where the meeting was supposed to be held. Many teachers from different colleges stood up and spoke about the injustice going on.

Biometric attendance system is being employed to get a clear picture about the attendance of all the teachers. Unsure of how the system will actually work, teachers decided to protest against it.

Some of the teacher suspected that the councilor may have any hidden conspiracy. So the teachers association has decided to continue the protest till the matter is solved.

None of the Indian Universities Rank in the Top 100 List

A recently released list of the top 100 Universities in the World has come as a shock to me. I was surprised to see none of the Indian Universities ranking among the top 100 Varsities of the world. What surprised me most was the fact that even University of Hong Kong is ranking at 24. No prices for guessing, most of the positions in the top 100 list are taken by U.K and U.S Universities. According to the report, America’s Harvard University has maintained its top position in 2009. Next, U.K.’s Cambridge University has journeyed up from third to second position. Yale University of US has fallen one position and is the third in ranking.

After the final list, UK is still showing the thump above its weight. Second position is held by U.S. U.S has begged four out of the top 10 slots and 18 in the top 100.

There are 14 to 16 numbers of Asian Universities in the list of top hundred. The University of Tokyo ranked 22 in the list and it is the highest among the Asian Universities. Besides Tokyo University, the University of Hong Kong stands at 24. Leading UK Universities said, institutions in Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong are cracking at the heels of western institutions, to give a clash they need additional financial support to compete on the global stage.

To me, this is a big shame for all of the Indian Universities which make false claims of being world-class.

An MBBS/MD Degree at Rs. 24,000 Per Year

Good News for Medical AspirantsNo I am not joking, no doubt it sounds truly “economical” and leaves medical aspirants rubbing their eyes in disbelief. But if the news sources are to be believed, it may soon be a real option with ESI Corporation proposing such a fee structure for no less than 10 medical colleges it is planning.

The ESIC is planning this move because of a serious shortfall of doctors in ESI hospitals. The proposed number of 10 such colleges might well go up to 20 in the future. The ESI scheme is for welfare of workers and is fed by contributions from employers and employees.

All of you must be thinking how can any medical college manage in such a small fee when most of the Delhi’s schools charge more than this amount for even primary classes. This is because the ESI Corporation is proposing a bond of five years for graduates who will have to serve in its hospitals in lieu of inexpensive education fees. The entire cost will have to be reimbursed in case of those who leave in the bond period.

The ESI colleges will be a big addition in the field of medical education. According to government figures, there are 271 medical colleges of which 130 are government colleges while 136 are private. The total intake of students per year is 30,400.

Swine Flu Scare

Swine FluUnion health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has admitted that no government measure could prevent the spread of H1N1 influenza in India, and according to WHO predictions, around one-third of the Indian population was likely to get infected with the virus over the next two years.
With Swine Flu spreading fast and recent cases of people tested positive for H1N1 influenza in New Delhi, some of the schools in Delhi have decided to remain closed for a week. Two schools Sanskriti and DPS (East of Kailash) will be closed for a week after their students, three and one respectively, tested positive for H1N1 influenza. Thirteen new cases were reported from the capital on Sunday five of them school children.

On one hand closing the school will help in curtailing the spread of Swine Flu among other students but on the hand it’ll create panic in the minds of people who hear about such news.

What do you think should be done to control this Swine Flu scare? Should the Delhi University colleges be closed?
