A lot of readers of this blog have asked me about the list of top 10 Universities/colleges in India. So, I’ve decided to publish a series of posts concentrating on the list of top 10 Universities, Top 10 Colleges and many more. And the good news is our very own Delhi University ranks at number 6 in this list. According to the Asian University Rankings 2010, University of Delhi ranks at 67th position and at 371st position in the World University Rankings 2010.

Indian universities are not ranked in the top 100 world universities. for a list of the top 100 world universities refer : http://classroomonnet.blogspot.com/2009/10/world-university-rankings-top-100.html . It is taken from the official QS university rankings which is accepted all over the world. For your info : Top ranked indian university is IIT,Bombay at NO.163

IIT-Hyderabad- the top institute in the present built 8 new IIT’S set up in 2008 will become the no.1 institute before the next 3 years..im proud that IIT is located in hyderabad..

the given ranking is totally wrong.because mumbai university is more tougher than pune so in place of pune there should be mumbai only as per my knowledge iit(all) then bits pilani and hten delhi university then jawaharlal nehru university then mumbai university.these are the top ten universities to whom world knows.

Informations given here are totally wrong.situation of indian universities in web ranking is totally pathetic.it is similar like indian football team ranking in FIFA ranking system.No one university in India deserve to be among top 500 in world.For technical studies IIT’S can be considered as among the top 100 institutes in world nothing else.However in case of general studies situation of india is very much worsening.patriotism will not make indian universities no.1 in one day……..

i dont know why Bundelkhand University (UP) is not included in top 10 university, its world ranking is 40, so we concluded that it 4th rank in India,so obviously it is better than Pune University(or u can say Oxford University of asia), i am student of Bundelkhand University, i believe your intelligence is our common sense

While such blogs and listings can create euphoria and depressions, the blog master should have the courtesy / etiquette to read and respond to the comments (not unlike many babu-oriented cultures –who only talk but don’t listen).
Could this page have appeared but for DU having been named is some G.O.K (God Only Knows) List, with out even acknowledging it.

It does not matter what you put out here, the proof is in the pudding. The IIT’s can never be graded as full-fledged universities at least from the Indian perspective. According to the most credible India Today survey; BHU, JNU, Delhi, Calcutta & Madras are the top Indian universities in that order. That ranking is based on many weighted factors that have fully explained & outlined here.

The one oddity is JNU whose perception scores overrode actual points, otherwise it fits below the #5 position.
Lastly, although I graduated from India to seek higher studies & a career in the US; I must emphasize that international university rankings should not apply to India for two very specific reasons:
1. These agencies have no direct ground level knowledge of prevailing local conditions.
2. Their parameters are completely meaningless in the much more diverse Indian scenario.
So please, take pride in the work done by India Today & stop cooking misleading information for our students & masses to suits your personal prejudice & agenda.
On a parting note; open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your core values.
